Elena von Hessen

Elena von Hessen (born 1967) studied in London at the City and Guilds Art School, at Parsons School of Design in New York and at the University of the Arts in Berlin.

Working a few years as a graphic designer at Studio Mendini in Milan, she soon focused on her talents as a visual artist. With growing success her works are being shown in galleries and public institutions. She lives and works in Milan and Capri.

The strong narrative character in Elena von Hessen’s work is immediately visible. An important source of inspiration are her own dreams and personal experiences, which she is processing through various media, not only watercolours in luminous colours, but also murals, large scale intallations, performances and scultpture. Also illustrations of fairy tales and literature have influenced her work a lot, and she often seems to be creating a private universe by telling her very own stories in her pictures.
